7 of October 2019 Apple company released the final version of macOS Catalina. The update did not become revolutionary – however, the company is confidently improving its desktop operating system. So, what is new? First of all, it is time to say goodbye to Itunes – now instead it there are three different apps for entertainment: Music, Podcast and TV. All connected devices now is visible at Finder – there users can make backup, software update, and firmware recovery procedures.
Music is a new program for listening to music received a minimalistic and concise design. The application provides access to the local media library, the Apple Music music service and Beats 1 radio. All songs, as before, are divided into categories, but now the program interface is not overloaded with unnecessary functions.
Podcasts is a mobile application from iOS, almost completely migrated to macOS Catalina. Personal charts, editorial collections – Apple does everything to popularize podcasts. Among the innovations of the desktop version is a search for program hosts and guests, as well as more precise recommendations in the “For You” section. Also, the new application works with Siri. Now the voice assistant will be able to prompt certain podcasts based on your history in the Safari browser.
TV is a comprehensive application for watching videos. Here, users can access the Apple TV + service, as well as all purchased movies and TV shows in the iTunes Store. That’s not all – the “TV” application provides a real movie aggregator. Here you can not only purchase video content, but also study the ratings (emotions), the biography of the actors, trailers and much more.
The second big change in Catalina is an opportunity to use Ipad as a second screen without any additional app. The connection can be with cable or Wifi. This feature also allows to use Ipad as graphics tablet and to use Touch Bar even if there no Touch Bar on MacBook. It is definitely the best feature of Catalina and it will make customer’s life better and easier.
The main feature of Catalina is a possibility to use Ipad’s apps on Mac PCs and laptops. It is a good beginning to make all Apple apps available on all devices – from phones to computers.
The final big change in macOS 10.15 Catalina is the Screen Time feature from iOS. It lets you track Mac usage activity and limit apps. There are a lot of settings – you can adjust the parameters very precisely. A new tool designed for “digital well-being” is perfect for monitoring children – since “Screen Time” allows you to put a ban on many actions – including in-app purchases and adult content. It is also possible to view statistics of a gadget of interest tied to an Apple ID account.
