Mercedes-Benz AMG GT R

In 2016, at the Goodwood international festival of speed, a charged version of the Mercedes-AMG GT model was presented. It received the letter R in the name, and is also the most powerful and fastest modification in this line. It is not difficult to distinguish this version from a regular car. The eye is caught by the wide wheels of increased diameter, active aerodynamic elements and large calipers, painted in bright colors. All these improvements give the car an extremely aggressive and fast appearance. But, despite such innovations, the model has retained its family features and still looks stylish and elegant. It has elongated rounded headlamps with small lenses and led daytime running lights, and the radiator grille consists of many thin, horizontally oriented ribs and flaunts a large manufacturer’s logo. In General, the designers managed to combine the aggressive spirit of supercars and premium refinement inherent in the models of the German manufacturer.

The Mercedes AMG is a sporty two – seat coupe. Its overall dimensions are: length 4544 mm, width 1930 mm, height 1287 mm, and wheelbase-2630 mm. The wheels of the car have different diameters – front 275/35/19, and rear – 325/30/20. To install such massive rollers, it was necessary to expand the body by 46 mm at the front and 57 mm at the rear. The healthy wheels easily fit carbon-ceramic ventilated discs at 402 and 360 millimeters, respectively.

A fully independent full-control chassis is responsible for the “taxiing”. At low speeds, the front and rear wheels turn in the opposite direction – this helps to perform maneuvers in a confined space. On the track, the algorithm of operation is completely changed, all wheels turn in one direction, which makes it easier to pass high-speed turns and gives amazing stability. Also, you can not ignore the stunning active aerodynamic elements. On the stern flaunts a controlled wing, the angle of attack of which can be set by the driver himself, and under it you can see a massive diffuser adjacent to the pipes of the fully titanium exhaust system. The front is even more difficult, with a controlled splitter installed under the bumper that can be extended at speeds over 80 km/h or in Race mode. It changes the aerodynamic scheme, so that an area of low pressure is formed under the bottom, pressing the car to the ground. In addition, there is also a pair of retractable flaps that redirect air flow to the radiators of the cooling system.

Power also underwent a lot of improvements. A 3982 CC turbocharged V8 petrol engine was used as the basis. Then the engineers installed a couple of more efficient turbochargers, configured the ECU to work with increased boost pressure, modified the gas distribution mechanism, installed lightweight valves and a more efficient cooling system. As a result, the engine produces 585 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 700 Nm of torque in the range from 1900 to 5500 rpm of the crankshaft. A seven-speed preselective robotic transmission with two clutches is designed to digest all this traction. It, in turn, transmits the torque through the lightweight driveshaft directly to the limited slip differential. It is controlled electronically and has a lot of modes of operation, both for slippery surfaces and for the track. As a result, with such a set and a huge herd under the hood, the coupe breaks from a place to a hundred in 3.6 seconds, and the maximum speed, in turn, is 318 kilometers per hour. Despite the highest power and amazing dynamics, the appetites of the engine are relatively small. Fuel consumption will be 15.1 liters in the city, 9 liters on the highway and 11.4 liters in a mixed cycle.

The Mercedes-AMG GT R is a truly revolutionary model. It has an aggressive, but at the same time sophisticated design that perfectly emphasizes the character and status of its owner in society. Such a car will not get lost in the gray everyday flow and will always attract the eyes. The interior is a realm of exclusive finishing materials, precise ergonomics and uncompromising comfort. Even a long trip or a day on the race track will not be able to deliver the slightest inconvenience. The manufacturer is well aware that the heart and soul of a sports car is its engine. That is why, under the hood of the coupe is a powerful and elastic power unit, which is a fusion of innovative technologies and unsurpassed German quality. The GT R model is one of the best ways to turn gasoline into pure adrenaline.
