In February 2014, as part of the Chicago international automobile show, the Korean manufacturer introduced an electric version of the KIA Soul, which received the EV prefix. The novelty is based on the platform version with an internal combustion engine, has only an electric motor, slightly modified interior and retouched design. The blind radiator grille, covered with a cover painted in the color of the body, catches the eye. On it you can see a small hatch and a black glossy border. It is flanked by large headlamps with several bluish focusing elements. Small fog lights also received a different color scheme. We also want to note the absence of an exhaust pipe and 16-inch alloy wheels with a unique design. As for the interior, it has not changed much. It has a slightly different color scheme and a different dashboard and a few new switches on the center panel.
Kia soul EV is a compact urban crossover. Its overall dimensions are: length 4140 mm, width 1800 mm, height 1605 mm, and wheelbase-2570 mm. The ground clearance is quite small and, compared to competitors, is not at all impressive – only 160 millimeters. This landing is more typical of passenger cars than SUV. The suspension itself has not changed much. At the front there is an independent McPherson strut – based structure with a cross bar stabilizer, and at the rear is a semi-independent elastic beam. Telescopic shock absorbers and steel coil springs are installed on both axles. Disc brakes, front with ventilation.
The trunk is significantly smaller than in the version with an internal combustion engine. Due to the bulky batteries and various tools in the Luggage compartment, in the standard position, when loaded under the shelf, there is only 290 liters of useful volume. If you sacrifice seats and fold the second row of seats, up to 890 liters are released.
Under the hood of the KIA Soul is an electric motor that develops 110 horsepower and 265 Nm of torque. The key feature of this unit is its excellent elasticity. It produces maximum thrust in almost the entire speed range. The transmission is a single-stage gearbox that transmits the moment to the wheels of the front axle. As a result, the electric soul accelerates to the first hundred in 11.2 seconds and is able to gain a maximum of only 145 kilometers per hour. The motor is powered by a battery of polymer lithium-ion batteries with a total capacity of 27 kWh. It takes about 5 hours to fully charge from the household power supply, but this time can be significantly reduced by using a special station. The range on a fully charged battery is 167 kilometers.
KIA Soul EV is built on the technologies of the future. It has a nice and memorable design that perfectly emphasizes the character and personality of its owner. Such a car will not disappear into the gray everyday traffic and will not get lost in the large Parking lot of the shopping center. The interior can please with good finishing materials, thoughtful ergonomics, practicality and comfort. Even heavy city traffic or a long road will not be able to cause the owner unnecessary inconvenience. The manufacturer predicts that the potential of internal combustion engines and fossil fuels will soon be exhausted. That is why, under the hood of the crossover is a stunningly powerful electric motor, giving the model good dynamics and completely devoid of harmful emissions.
