Ford has announced that the new Mustang Mach-E electric crossover will hit European roads even earlier than in the USA. The European debut took place almost three months after the official premiere in America: the car was shown in London. As the engineers assure, in order for the electric car to meet local road conditions and customer requirements, they had to deal with fine-tuning the suspension and steering, as well as fine-tuning the stabilization system and all-wheel drive. The Euro version differs from the American one even from the outside: the design of the navigation lights has been changed – the vertical sections disappeared, the black edging of the central plug on the front end has become embossed. At the same time, orange side reflectors, usually inherent in cars produced for America, are striking. According to Ford representatives, the vast majority of European customers (about 85%) who pre-ordered the new Mach-E opted for the version with a large 98.8 kWh battery and rear-wheel drive (286 hp), which can overcome up to 600 km on a single charge (according to the WLTP cycle). Recall that the electric crossover is available in five variants, each of which differs in equipment, cruising range, dynamic performance and, of course, price.

In the first configuration, rear-wheel drive is combined with two sizes of traction battery to choose from, in the second there are also two, but the drive is already full, and in the third – full with an older battery without choice.

The younger of the two batteries can be charged with a power of up to 115 kW, refueling from 10% to 80% in 38 minutes. The older battery takes up to 150 kW, and its charging time is 44 minutes. For  such quick refueling the company suggests going to the Ionity station. The SUV is equipped with the latest generation SYNC multimedia system with wireless connection of devices via Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and AppLink, a 15.5-inch screen, voice control and machine learning, which analyzes driver preferences.

The seating position in the cabin is high, so there is enough free space in the back. A trip on a prototype with a factory tester behind the wheel was remembered with an unusual sound: during acceleration, the Mustang Mach-E fills the interior with a synthetic cocktail of electric hum and a rumble that vaguely resembles an engine exhaust. This sound was chosen by customers in a survey.

 The dynamics are interesting, but not overwhelming – about six seconds to 100 km per hour even in the most unbridled Unbridled mode, while in the other two modes (Whisper and Engaged) Mach-E seemed to be quiet. And if not overclocking, then how else should the Mach-E be like the Mustang?

 An interesting point: the system has the ability to update the software, which can improve both the functions of the entertainment system and the performance of the car. In parallel with preparations for the start of deliveries to Europe, Ford is expanding its network of Ionity charging stations. According to the plan, by the end of the year 400 points will be installed in “key European regions”. In addition to Europe and the USA, the new Mach-E will be sold in China, but the appearance of electric vehicles in Russia can not be expected: Fords left our market last year.
